Our team at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR) is currently engaged in a critical and complex mission to rescue kʷiisaḥiʔis, or Brave Little Hunter, an orphaned killer whale that has captured the hearts of many.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been working alongside Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Ehattesaht First Nation to develop a rescue plan that prioritizes kʷiisaḥiʔis’s safety and focuses on her successful reunification with her pod.

This rescue operation is among the most challenging and intricate that we have undertaken. Fortunately, our VAMMR team is being supported by an incredible team from the Vancouver Aquarium (including some who were integral to the successful rescue of Springer in 2002). Their dedication and expertise have given us confidence as we approach this difficult rescue.

We recognize the deep interest and concern for kʷiisaḥiʔis's welfare shared by our community and supporters. We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide updates as the situation evolves.

Thank you for standing with us as we prepare for this significant endeavour. Your ongoing support has been instrumental in ensuring we’re ready for moments like this.
