Disentanglement Rescue July 9

On July 9, we successfully disentangled one of the youngest Steller sea lions we have ever treated. This small male was found near Mitlenatch Island, entangled in what we believe was a rubber gasket - an unusual and dangerous piece of marine debris.
Our team was able to safely sedate him, remove the entanglement, and tag him for future monitoring. He recovered well and was bright and alert on a nearby weather buoy as we departed.

Saving Marine Life From Debris

It's estimated that more than 400 sea lions along the B.C. coast are currently caught in discarded rope, nets, monofilament and packing bands. If left untreated, these materials often result in a prolonged and painful death.

Fortunately, with the help of people like you, the VAMMR team has helped pioneer a way to disentangle and save the lives of these animals.
